Kiwanis Club of Downtown Springfield, MO

There are going to be a several things happening over the next several weeks, starting with tomorrow night! Remember, our 80’s themed Trivia Night will be at the Bill Rowe Training Facility at Hammons Field, 955 E. Trafficway. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The taco bar will be ready at 6:00. Trivia will start at 6:45. Don’t forget, there will be a contest for the best table decoration!

Then, next Saturday, November 9th will be our Big Brothers Big Sisters outdoor event at the park next to McBride Elementary, 5005 S. Farm Rd. 135 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Rain or shine. It just won’t last as long if it rains! We will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs while the kids are playing. We will also be giving them hygiene kits before they leave. Please let me know if you would be able to volunteer to help. Brandon and Les will be grilling and Angela will be face painting. So the rest of us will be backup for helping and keeping an eye on the kids. We are expecting 35 – 50.

On Tuesday, November 12th, there will be a WWI monument re-dedication at 2:00 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery by Lake Springfield, 5201 S. Southwood Rd. Over the years, this monument has been vandalized and has since been refreshed. It was originally dedicated to the Springfield area WWI servicemen on November 12, 1924 and was paid for by Kiwanis, Rotary, and other civic groups. It would be nice if we could have members there representing our Club.

This month’s Board Meeting date has been moved to Monday, November 18th. We will meet at the Whole Hog Cafe on N. Glenstone. Since they close at 8:00, our meeting time has changed to 5:30 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend!

As with every month, the Bomb Squad has their 3rd Thursday networking group. From 4:30 – 6:00ish, stop by Georgia Mac’s, have some appetizers  and share information about our Club. You don’t have to be there the whole time. And, you just might be speaking to a potential member!

Our annual Delaware School Christmas party will be Tuesday, December 10th in the school gym. We will NOT meet at the Springfield Brew Co. that day. We will talk more about that as we get closer.

Be sure to send me your service hours for October. It was definitely a busy month for many. We had a lot of meetings and preparations for Trivia Night and BBBS. There was prepping and building bikes for the B&G Club. We had our Officer Installation Banquet. Let me know how long you were involved in any or all of those events or anything else I’m unaware of…or possibly forgot! For our new members, these additional hours count toward meetings missed and go towards Perfect Attendance!
